Sefton has been awarded four stars again and this does represent a lot of hard work by many staff who deserve our congratulations. The Visiter has the story. As the cabinet member for Performance you would guess that I am pleased. Nevertheless a word of caution. Scurrying round casing the targets of a London Government does distort performance. We see all the time that this target culture is not the answer to the question; 'how do we improve local government'. Rather it is the answer to another less relevant question; 'which council's are good at meeting government targets'.
David Boyle has some trenchant views on the topic especially in his book 'The Tyranny of Numbers'
